News of a major songwriting honor surfaced this week as the Songwriters Hall of Fame confirmed that John Fogerty will receive the Johnny Mercer Award in 2026. The award is considered the organization’s highest recognition, reserved for Hall of Fame members whose careers show exceptional influence and longevity.
The announcement places Fogerty among songwriters whose work has shaped American popular music over several decades. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, largely for songs he wrote and recorded with Creedence Clearwater Revival, including Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, and Fortunate Son.
The Johnny Mercer Award recognizes a complete body of work rather than a single moment or release. Past recipients include songwriters whose catalogs remain widely performed and recorded across generations.
Fogerty is scheduled to receive the honor on June 11 during the 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala, set for the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
