It was inevitable, the video of Sarah Palin in the 1984 Miss Alaska Swimsuit competition has been found. Here's a link. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2008/09/post-4.html
I'm out of the office NFL Survivor pool after only four weeks into the season. Thanks a lot Denver, you owe me $10.
That game between the Bengals and Browns Sunday was one of the worst I've ever seen. Two teams going nowhere fast. If the Bengals don't get Carson Palmer back, an 0-16 season is not out of the question.
My wife is convinced I have Restless Leg Syndrome and I think she's right. I'm not big on taking drugs so I'm looking for something I can do naturally. If I don't, a permanent residency on the couch is in my future.

Last week we all went through the aftermath of our freak wind storm and this week we're all witnessing a hurricane washing over our economy. My 13-year old son wanted to know what was going on and I tried to explain it the best I could and then told him he and his children will be paying for this mess their entire lives. What a depressing conversation.
We've had some lousy leadership in our country in the past but this group is unprecedented in their stupidity and lack of stewardship for our country. Good, got that off my chest. I'd rather have the firefighters in the Sprint commercial running things.
Football picks this week in the AFC North - I have a bad feeling about the Bengals this week, like last week was the best they had and Cleveland's going to get their act together. I'll still take the Bengals as Cleveland's secondary stinks but Cincinnati needs to protect Palmer better. Steelers over Raven ...

First, this is no diatribe by me to tell you how I'm voting and what you should do. This is actually about finding "conspiracy" and political leanings where there are none.
I received an email this morning from a listener who insisted the small "Vote in '08" box we have on the home page is somehow slanted in favor of Obama. Really? This person actually said she saw a favoritism in the graphic. Wow, I thought it was just a picture of the two candidates. If we only put one of them up or one was giant and the other miniscule, okay, you got us. It's just a reminder to register to vote.
The two pictures in the box are essentially the same size. We even put Obama on the left and McCain on the right (how clever of us). Actually, the McCain picture is slightly in front of Obama, so I'm sure an Obama supporter will email me to complain about the right wing bias. ...

After five days of no power at home, the lights came back on last night around 7:00. I walked over to talk to the Duke crew that was reassembling on my street and they must have thought I was coming to complain. Not at all, I thanked them for the hard work they're doing around the clock. I think most people understand the pressure they're under but of course in our "me first" society, some people believe they belong at the top of the list.
They're the same people that run up the shoulder of the highway because they can't wait an extra couple of minutes.
The good thing about the black out was that it taught my kids (and me a little) about coping. We're so used to instant gratification that having to sit in the dark every night might have given them a sense of what it used to be like in the days before TV, computers, video games and cell phones. That being said, I sure did miss ESPN.

Meandering thoughts while I wait to get the power on back home.
-My kids are finding a whole world of things to do without computers and video games. I actually saw them playing Monopoly and we had a camp fire in the backyard last night.
-My wife is a technology/tv addict. She started freaking out last night without the lights and couldn't believe I was fine with sitting in the dark listening to the radio.
-Glad that I'm a bit of a fresh food freak - didn't have to throw out too much frozen food away. We had some pretty good thawed out ribeyes last night. Sorry PETA.
-Charging cell phones with two teenagers at home has become a big issue. No power, no texting.

From Reverend Judy (via emai)
Hi Keith,
First off, thanks for all the great updates on supplies, closings and roads. You have been a great lifeline.
Secondly, as a survivor of hurricane Hugo September 21,1989 I can tell you that the Cincy folks need to start caring for themselves now. Keep candles in safe containers only in occupied rooms. Wrap frozen food in newspaper, it will stay colder longer. Don't open the fridge door at all if you can help it. Drive slowly and stop at every intersection. Stay home at night, the bad guys take advantage of damaged unoccupied homes. Conserve water, fill up your tub and containers now. Use your grill to cook outdoors only, you may die from the toxic fumes in a garage if it rains. Be kind to eachother, you never know if the other guy as reached the end of his rope! Be careful where you drive, there's more on the roads than branches. Buy no groceries more than you can use in a two day time span, i ...

Another week of "expert" AFC North predictions. I was 2-1 last week, of course my one loss being the Bengals.
Titans over Bengals (how much could the line play improve in one week? The paper bags return.)
Steelers over Browns (Cleveland's secondary is in shambles, Big Ben should have a big night.)
Texans over Ravens (Houston rebounds, Ravens new QB will actually get some pressure this week.)
College pick - USC over Ohio State. Buckeyes were lucky to win last week over Ohio U. Trojans won't have any problems, especially in their own stadium. Kudos though to the Buckeyes for playing this game - a season maker or breaker in one night. If Ohio State loses, they won't make it back to another BCS title game.

Today is one of those days - you know exactly where you were seven years ago during the terrorist attacks and the aftermath of 9/11.
I was on the air (on another station) and Angie Irick called in a panic telling me that the World Trade Center had been attacked. Going on the air and telling listeners of what was transpiring was otherworldly. It was the first catastrophic event that I ever reported on the air since I began in radio in 1986.
One thing that happened that day was a unifying of the country. For a while, everyone was together, no matter age, gender, race, creed or political affiliation. First and foremost we were all Americans Seven years later, much of that unifying feeling seems to be gone.
Hopefully you'll take a moment or two today to remember what you were doing and all those who died that day. Fly a flag, say a prayer, talk to your kids about wha ...

I can't believe my youngest son is turning 10 years old this week, meaning I'll have no kids in single digits. More gray in the beard, harder to fall asleep and then stay asleep, aches and pains on a more regular basis, this getting old stuff is everything my folks said it would be.
Speaking of 10 year olds, finding birthday presents other than video games and Legos seems pretty difficult. If you have a good suggestion, email me or log on and comment.

I said on the air Friday I was going to do nothing but watch football this weekend except for a trip Saturday morning to watch my son play soccer (his team even won a game) and that's just what I did.
I started at noon on Saturday and stayed with the games until 12am, then started again Sunday and watched until the wee hours Sunday. I can't believe how bad the Bengals looked, even worse than in preseason. I'm sure Marvin Lewis will blather on about the team needing to be more physical, make plays, be prepared, it's just one game, etc. He's been preaching that b.s. for years. I think he says the same stuff because he doesn't have an easy answers with that crew he is paid to coach.
Other than football, high praise to my wife who bought a new fryer Sunday and made some world class wings for the game. It was the only enjoyment that was had during that poor excuse for football.
